The Middle Earth path was just a convention to keep us all motivated and share the ‘journey.’ I’ve been negligent about updating because I’ve been playing soundtracks and more concerned about “can I belt this song when the bike is at this level” than “how many miles did I just do.”

Let’s all just share our successes, and know that this is also a safe, non-judgmental place to admit our failures. Like mine on Friday, in which I determined that mint chip ice cream is, in fact, an acceptable dinner.

I’m going to be pretty much useless about posting until mid-August now anyway.

Erin, If we continue to ride the Middle Earth path, I’ll be setting out for Isengard in the morning. I’ve knocked off 2100.4 miles since we started this thing, since I’m the Bicycle Going Nowhere maniac of the group.

Shall we leave the scenario of Middle Earth and just post straight accounts of our rides? I think it would be a big encouragement just to do that. What do you think?

Good luck on the next leg of your journey! I have been distracted by hobbits-in-law and other stuff of late, but am still on the road. I hope to make another leg of the journey soon, and will post when I do. If only I didn’t have that blasted work-thing to do, I would make more progress! :-P

Melissa, I’m sure you’ll learn much from your time with the peddlers. I may stay in Crickhollow a few days myself, riding the area and learning more about the folk. This is basically a Hobbit resort town, so there are lovely bike paths and the folk at the Kampground of Middle Earth are friendly and welcoming. The dark woods lie ahead and I want to build my energy before traveling through them. — Rana

Good plan, my Ranger friend. It’s always good to know what’s coming — from all directions. Having said that, I’m going to spend the day exploring the area around Crickhollow more thoroughly. I played poker with two Hobbits for a couple of hours last night and learned of some strange happenings in the area. I’m going to check it out and will let you know what I discover.

Good Ranger, I’m relieved you’re on the road. My eleven blood has caused me to ride out ahead of the Fellowship, scouting and doing my best to appear as nothing more than a tourist retracing an historic journey. However, based on the woman I encountered yesterday, I fear you are right.
